Ioana Iacob’s attention concentrates on her surrounding reality, very often her chosen subjects being nothing else than the most ordinary objects found among any woman’s tools or in her wardrobe (a brush, a nail clipper, a bed side table, a make up bag, underwear, the usual apartment ornamental plant etc.), but they are all investigated in a feminine perspective, vaguely erotic. Things are never explicit but they go on telling their story in the mind of the viewer. The masculine is rather absent, sometimes one gets the feeling that a man just left or is about to come. The eroticism is only imagined, suggested. The women, with the exception of portraits, are barely recognizable; their faces are either cut out or blurred. A certain dose of sadness but also of reconciliation with the daily routine comes through Ioana Iacob’s paintings.

All these images put together make out a universe somehow familiar to us, the viewers, but the perspective is highly personal, feminine, loaded with candour in places. Things are beings said with great honesty on humble sizes, her painting is highly intimate, apparently fragile, but on a straight forward voice, fresh and full of savour.
