For his first solo show in Bucharest, the artist Dan Beudean takes on a God role suggesting a new Genesis with major alteration from the original one. New physiological mutations appear both in human and animal species, and the obsession for overdeveloped muscles creates surprising forms: palm tree, fish, tiger-man or stag-man. Behavioral aberrations are part of the artist’s vision of this new world, guided by rules other than the ones we are used to: a calf is trying to suck on a dinosaur or a horse and an elephant are trying to mate.

The works displayed in the show have a mystical air that oscillates between Christianity and the recent myths of the 20th century regarding extra-terrestrial civilizations, mysticism that is also coming from the icon-like appearance of the images. The drawing is covered by brown colour washes that further deepen the mystery and the absurdity of the scenes.

Dan Beudean uses drawing, collage, object or photography to conceive his universe – a biased universe from the very beginning. There is a well-dosed irony, imagination and gravity that give credibility to this artistic hypothesis.
